Deryne Sim Lifen is an openly lesbian media and entertainment lawyer and an LGBTQ activist.

She serves on the steering committee of Pink Dot SG, a social movement which promotes acceptance and equality for LGBTQ people in Singapore. Her portfolio in Pink Dot SG encompasses providing legal advice to the organization and spearheading Red Dot for Pink Dot, the business networking arm of Pink Dot SG which conducts fundraising activities for Pink Dot SG and promotes workplace inclusion in Singapore. Additionally, she is a committee member with the Ready4Repeal movement, which advocates for the decriminalisation of homosexuality in Singapore.

Sim was a contributor to Same But Different: A Singapore LGBT Legal Guide For Couples & Families.

In 2019, she was awarded the Chevening Scholarship by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office and used the opportunity to pursue an LL.M at the University of Edinburgh in Innovation, Technology and the Law. However, soon after the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic, she returned to Singapore in 2020.

    • provided practical legal solutions to various business units for:
      • revenue deals such as advertising and sponsorship agreements and affiliate sales agreements.
      • marketing (including regional contests and on-ground events) and PR matters.
      • regulatory, corporate secretarial, compliance (FCPA and UK Bribery Act) and censorship issues.
    • supported the Vice President of Corporate Legal for special projects such as negotiating agreements with major affiliate partners, business development.
  • Legal Counsel at Scripps Networks Interactive from March 2014 to August 2016 where she
    • reviewed and negotiated agreements such as:
      • advertising sales, channel distribution, barter, production services, program acquisition, program licensing, talent engagement, IT and vendor agreements.
    • applied for and maintaining licences with various regulators in the APAC region (e.g., broadcasting licences in Taiwan and Vietnam)
    • implemented data protection and privacy policies
    • emplemented anti-corruption policies
    • managed the process of appointing and maintaining third.

  • Associate at Bird & Bird ATMD LLP from September 2010 to September 2012
  • Legal associate in the Intellectual Property department, IP litigation workgroup
